How many times have you given your dog (or cat) a bath then let them out only to find they have escaped? It is important that collars go on RIGHT AFTER BATH TIME!!!

Yesterday I discovered two small Jack Russell Terrier dogs romping through my FENCED backyard, I immediately was frightened for their safety, they were on my two dogs turf who had (pee) lined our property with "BEWARE OF DOG!" But here they were running to and fro with my big 90 pound male trotting after them checking out the situation, I knew it was a matter of moments that he would attack one of the little dears, which he did (and YES he IS neutered!)

He ALWAYS listens to me, and is ALWAYS very polite and well behaved, but not so when he decided it was time to kill this little unwelcomed visitor. He would not come when I called, then screamed his name as he was attacking this little dog. I ran and got our bee bee gun and even though I was shaking violently, I managed to shoot my dog enough times for him to leave his prey that he was attacking, the little dog yelping with each shake, GOD IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!

The little terrier was left alive and blinking but lay quite still on his side, I couldn't bear to look and fortunately my neighbor was outside and came over with his gun incase the dog was suffering.. He ended wrapping him up in a towel that I supplied and put him in my passenger seat. I sped off like a bullet to my vet. HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY TAGS! My vet wouldn't take him since he was considered a stray, WITH NO TAGS and not even neutered! If this dog had tags I WOULD HAVE PAID the fee for him to be seen since being full blooded Jack Russell, I KNEW his owner would be looking for him. The vet had NO heart I tell you! So, I sped off to the Humane Society, all the while talking softly to my bleeding passenger, praying and petting the blood soaked little head. After numerous questions about where, when, how and where again they came and carried him off to their vet. I donated my last $20 to the cause (I also donate regularly to the US Humane Society and others) and asked them to PLEASE do what they could, I would check back the next day.

I had a sleepless night wondering who this little dog belonged to and remembering the other little one that looked just like him, in the middle of my yard, just staring at... her brother, her mate? I am so glad she got out after many circles around our fence. How did they get in, in the first place??? I check our fence regularly for holes or diggings.

I got home from work today and my husband relayed the story of a distraught, crying woman at our door inquiring about her dog. She had been driving around for nine hours when she happened upon my neighbor who told her what had happened, well, not quite ALL but enough for her to realize that it probably was her dog. I called and spoke to her after my husband gave me the flyer she left, she had already printed with her phone number and picture of the little dog. I think I was a little more distraught than her at the time, I was quite tearful as I told her a story of a dog fight that I broke up in the street and ended up scooping her precious one up and taking him to the vet then the humane society. Am I bad? I was frightened and concerned about legalities of such things, even in my OWN yard. I don't know, it just breaks my heart that my dog would hurt another dog enough to be put down. Yes, put down as she discovered before I was able to contact them. Man, that just SUCKS!!! Poor little thing. Why do dogs kill things? I had a dog once that killed my cat after they had been best buds for three years, right in front of me!!! I can't understand this and it just kills me. I woke up at least five times last night worrying about this dog that I didn't even know and who BROKE into our back yard! I love my dogs so much (they are my kids since I was unable to have any) but hate that they can do these things, it just makes me cry. Please be aware of this possibility and keep your pets properly TAGGED, FENCED and SPAYED/NUETERED!!!!
